Dear players, members, sponsors and to all the associated with the Marcellin Old Colleginas Football Club,
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a very happy and safe Christmas and New Year. I hope you all get the opportunity to spend time with family and friends where you can relax and unwind.
As we head into the Christmas break, I would like to give you a quick update on football matters.
We had a very successful and encouraging 3 week pre-Christmas training block which was enthusiastically tackled by all players. We had 9 sessions in total and had 96 players attend training over this period which is a great result in itself. Of the 9 sessions there were 8 players that attended every session. This is a great sign of commitment and sacrifice and is what is needed by everyone in order to be successful in 2015. The 8 players that attended every session are outlined below, well done fellas.
- Jeramiah Antypas
- Adrian Bonato
- Matthew Bortolotto
- Jarrod Carlson
- Trent Carlson
- Timothy James
- Nicholas James
- Jonathan Sammut
Another important part of the pre-Christmas training block was fitness testing and benchmarking. We ran a 1km time trial, a beep test and a 3km time trial. Results in all 3 were fairly pleasing and we saw improvement in fitness from week to week. We need to continue to work harder if we want ultimate success in 2015. Everyone has their times and should be working to better these prior to resuming pre-season. The top 3 in each test are outlined below;
1km Time Trial |
Beep Test |
3km Time Trial |
Jonathan Blanch – 2.51 |
Jonathan Blanch – 14.11 |
Jonathan Blanch – 9.50 |
Keiran Mahoney – 2.58 |
Jarrod Carlson – 14.1 |
Patrick Lunn – 11.10 |
Patrick Lunn – 3.08 |
Matthew Gasparini – 13.7 |
Jarrod Carlson – 11.23 |
Congratulations goes to Jonathan Blanch who topped the pops in all three tests, great effort, Jono. Congratulations also goes to Jarrod Carlson and Patrick Lunn who were in the top 3 in two out of the three tests, excellent work to both of you. It is no fluke that our fittest players are also our better players. They get to more contests and outwork their opponents. I will continue to remind you that the harder you work the luckier you get.
I would also like to congratulate and welcome the new coaches to the Club in particular Senior Assistant Coaches James Francis and Scott Sutherland and U/19's Coach Tony Norris. We welcome you to the Marcellin family and are rapt to have you on board and I know you will be a great asset for me, for the boys and for the Club – welcome! We now have in place a very strong coaching group to work with the players to achieve ultimate success in 2015.
Between now and our first training session back after Christmas (Wednesday 28 January, 2015) we have 6 weeks. We expect all players to continue training and build on the work already done. We expect players to complete 3-4 sessions per week of somewhere between 30-45 minutes per session. We require this commitment and sacrifice to ensure we start ahead of the pack come first training session back. Click below for the summer programs;

Before I finish I would like to thank the players, coaches and support staff for their commitment thus far. There is no secret that success in 2015 will be built around hard work. I can’t fault the players desire to learn, their enthusiasm and their commitment to hard work. Keep it up and the results will follow. There is a great feeling around the Club and the players’ attitudes are definitely driving this.
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and safe New Year. I’m looking forward to big things in 2015.
Go Eagles!
